What is a Vampire Facial?

A vampire facial, also known as PRP (platelet-rich plasma), is a procedure where blood is drawn from your arm, your platelets are separated and then applied back to your face. It may sound a little different to your typical facial, but vampire facials have lots of benefits and are becoming increasingly popular!

What Happens During a Vampire Facial?

So, as we said above, using microneedling, your therapist will draw blood from your arm. Once they've done this, they will then place your vials of blood into a centrifuge. A centrifuge is basically a machine that separates parts of a liquid at a fast pace. Your therapist will then spread your blood platelets over your face like a mask. It may sound a bit strange, but this technique is actually almost painless and will make your skin shine and glow! Please make sure you avoid blood thinners for at least a few days before you have your treatment done.

Benefits of Vampire Facials

We know this treatment sounds a bit scary, but it does have many great benefits for your skin! Vampire facials can enhance your skin quality through increased collagen production. If you've got wrinkles, folds or dark circles you want to hide, then this would be perfect for you! The collagen will also help in keeping your skin firm and tight. Particularly as we age, our skin becomes thinner, but collagen helps to plump out the skin. The best part is that the treatment doesn't last too long, and it doesn't hurt. As this part of your skin is sensitive, you may feel the treatment being put on, but you won't feel any pain thanks to a local anaesthetic being applied before your procedure starts. You will also have plenty of time before you start the treatment to ask your therapist any questions that you might have so they can put your mind at rest. There are some people who would get more benefit out of this particular treatment including people who have high levels of sun damage, and anyone who wants a fresher, tighter looking complexion would be an ideal candidate to have this treatment done! It is advised if you have a history of blood diseases like clotting or bleeding, not to get this treatment done.

What Happens After a Vampire Facial?

It's not unusual to experience some side effects after you've had your treatment. You may notice bruising, which is normally down to where the blood was extracted from you, as well as pain and swelling in the same area. For at least 5 hours after your treatment you should avoid washing your skin, exposing the area to direct levels of high heat, taking part in activities that will cause you to sweat or get wet, for example hair dryers, very hot showers and sun exposure.

How Long Do Vampire Facial Results Last?

You should start seeing some results after a couple of days, and the glow from your skin should still be noticeable about 2 to 3 weeks after your initial treatment. Remember the results you see are not permanent. You will need more than the one treatment to start seeing full results. Generally, people tend to need between 3 and 6 sessions. It's recommended to have a session once every 4 weeks for optimal results.

How Long After a Vampire Facial Can I Exercise Again?

Typically, therapists recommend waiting between 48 and 72 hours before engaging in any strenuous physical activity. If you're still feeling a bit tired and sore after this time, then feel free to give it longer and listen to how your body is responding to the treatment.
