What is a Bamboo Massage?

Bamboo massages are a type of massage where hollow bamboo canes are used as a tool during the massage. They are either warmed or are left at room temperature. Sometimes they're used in combination with hot stones and sometimes they're used on their own.

What Will Happen During a Bamboo Massage?

Many people who have had bamboo massages say that they feel relaxed from the moment they step in the room. You'll be given a robe to wear, which you will remove once you enter the treatment room, then you will be asked to lay down on the massage table. The therapist will administer some oils to your skin before they start with the bamboo. In this treatment, the bamboo is heated and is used on your body like a roller, which aims to stretch your muscles out. The idea is to help relieve any aches and pains that you may be experiencing. You will be bambooed from top to bottom as it's a full body type of massage!

What Should I Wear To a Bamboo Massage?

Generally for massages people are advised to wear looser fitting clothing. This is because it is more comfortable and easy to roll sleeves or trousers up if necessary. Bamboo massages are usually done without clothing on, so don't worry too much if you turn up in jeans! Additionally, if you don't feel comfortable taking your clothes off, make sure you wear something a bit looser and lighter, and your therapist will be able to complete the massage with you fully clothed.

Benefits of a Bamboo Massage

The benefits of a bamboo massage are generally similar to those of deep tissue massages and Swedish massages. People have noted that bamboo massages helped to improve joint stiffness as well as quality of sleep. It is also known to help relieve back pain due to the rolling of the bamboo canes providing a good amount of pressure, and helping to relax the muscles. Like other massage types, it also helps to reduce headaches and migraines as the treatment decreases your stress levels.

How Often Should I Have a Bamboo Massage?

Generally it's up to you how often you have a bamboo massage done. After your first session, take time to rest and see how long the benefits of the massage last you, then you should be able to work out when next to get one. If you're not sure or have any questions about the massage, make sure you ask your therapist at the time who can advise you.

What Happens After a Bamboo Massage?

There's nothing specific that happens after a bamboo massage that doesn't happen with other massages. Your muscles may feel sore and achy for a day or two after the massage as your body has been pulled about during the treatment. You shouldn't experience any pain though, but if you do, just let your therapist know. It can also cause a headache due to the amount of pressure used on your skin, but again this should go away quickly!
