For something a bit more artsy, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is a treasure trove of international art featuring masterpieces from the likes of Botticelli, Tiepolo, Veronese and Rembrandt.

St Petersburg

Next up is the home of some of Russia’s most admirable architecture, St Petersburg. After your scenic train journey, you’ll make yourself comfortable in a twin or double guestroom at Nevsky Hotel Grand, where you can relish being in a prime location. Of course, when most people think of St Petersburg they think of The Hermitage, also known as The Winter Palace. Home to many of the world’s greatest treasuries of art and antiquities, you’ll find wonders of Greek, Roman and Russian origins - take a peek or delve deeper into the history of the city with a guided tour. Leave space on your agenda for the Peterhof Palace, the Savior on the Spilled Blood Church and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Performance is yet another art form that the Russians understand well. The Mariinsky Theatre is globally renowned for the quality of its ballet, operas and orchestral music. If you can escape St Petersburg unmoved then we’d be surprised!
