At the top of the city's winding helter-skelter of cobbled streets lies the medieval centre, framing the Fontana Maggiore, a marble fountain beautified with biblical carvings. Should the Renaissance-like aura inspire you, visit the Priori Palace and the National Gallery to see the 13th century artwork. Likewise, Rocca Paolina, a Renaissance Fortress constructed by Pope Paul III in 1540, is recommended for culture cravers.
