Stockholm the capital of Sweden is spread out over a number of islands between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. In summer take a boat trip to a restaurant on one of the many islands which make up the spectacular archipelago. In winter visit the beautifully preserved historical Old Town with Christmas markets and candlelit shops.
Arriving into Stockholm Arlanda Airport there are high speed train links to the city meaning you can reach the centre of Stockholm in just 20 minutes. Airport buses are also available which are the cheapest way of reaching the city. Stockholm is a large city and there are lots of sights and attractions to see during your break in the Swedish capital.
The Vasa Museum is a maritime museum on the island of Djurgarden which houses the 17th century warship Vasa which sank on its maiden voyage and was salvaged from Stockholm Harbour in 1961. The museum also features many of the relics and artefacts found on board the ship as well as other museum ships, moored in the lake outside the main museum.
The Royal National City Park is a series of parks and green spaces stretching throughout Stockholm and is the world’s first national city park. Stockholm as a whole is a very clean and green city, free from pollution compared to other European capitals. The waters around Stockholm are so clean they are used for fish breeding as well as swimming and diving!
Gamla stan is the old town of Stockholm and dates back to the 13th century. Consisting of historic buildings, cobbled streets and twisting alleys, Gamla stan is home to Stockholm Cathedral, the Nobel Museum, and the Riddarholm church.
A modern and vibrant city, Stockholm boasts several Michelin starred restaurants and many trendy bars and cafes. You can shop ’til you drop or even get out of the urban metropolis and explore the beautiful pine forests that surround the city!
