Your tour of these two intriguing countries provides you with all accommodation, daily breakfast, transfers and excursions with an English-speaking guide, plus a host of planned activities, including visits to seven World Heritage Sites and an elephant orphanage, beautiful beaches and a rickshaw ride to keep you entertained throughout. The action-packed itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Arrive in Delhi
Head by private air-conditioned vehicle to your pre-booked hotel for an evening at your leisure.
Day 2: Delhi city tour
Head out to visit Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India built by Emperor Shah Jahan, then proceed to Chandni Ckowk for a rickshaw ride through the busiest market of Old Delhi. Drive past Red Fort, Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate, then onto Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi that marks the spot where he was cremated in 1948.
Day 3: Delhi to Agra
Leave at 7:30 am for Agra via the Yamuna Expressway. On arrival, visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb and Agra Fort to learn all about the architecture, art and grandeur of Mughal rule.
Day 4: Agra, Fatehpur Sikri & Jaipur
Spend the early part of the morning at the Taj Mahal, synonymous not only with Agra but with all of India. The construction is believed to have taken 18 years (1631-1648) with over 20,000 artisans working around the clock. Travel onto Jaipur and en route visit Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar in 1569.
Day 5: Jaipur
Visit Amber Fort, the former capital of the Kingdom of Rajasthan. Ride up on a painted elephant passing through the ancient gate, where the Maharajas of Jaipur rode for centuries. Later, stop to photograph the Hawa Mahal, a five-storied structure of pink sandstone, and the City Palace, a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The centre of the palace is a seven-storey building called Chandra Palace, with fine views over the gardens and the city.
Day 6: Jaipur to Delhi:
On arrival in Delhi, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Colombo. Check into your hotel after being met by your local representative.
Day 7: Colombo to Kandy
Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Located on the west coast, it is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern and colonial impressions. You'll visit famous places including Galle Face Green, the Viharamahadevi Park, National Museum, Twin World Trade Center towers, Old Parliament Building and the Independence Hall at Independence Square, and prominent Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Christian places of worship. Spend some time at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage where you can watch caretakers feed, bathe and help these gentle giants. Next onto Kandy, the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka and named as one of the seven UNESCO sites in the country.
Day 8: Kandy
Enjoy the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens with over 300 different varieties of orchids, other spices, medicinal plants and palm trees at this 147-acre flower garden. Next you'll visit the Gem Museum as Sri Lanka produces the finest quality of gems in the world. In the evening you will witness a traditional cultural dance show.
Day 9: Kandy to Bentota
Bentota is the city of the Golden Beaches. You will be able to relax and feel the spirit of the sea and the warmth of the soft sand. The day is divided in between swimming in the water and bathing in the sun.
Day 10: Bentota
Head off on a boat trip on the Madhu River passing many islets forested with mangroves, then visit the Turtle Hatchery, a prime turtle nesting site to see huge tanks filled with new born turtle hatchlings.
Day 11: Bentota-Colombo
Transfer to the airport for your flight back home, with memories of a lifetime to cherish.
