The neon motel signs of Tucumcari will illuminate your drive into the Gateway to New Mexico, where unrivalled vistas of mountains peaks and monuments have made it the setting of several Westerns. En-route to Albuquerque, you’ll pass Native American pueblos, with the chance to visit the communities of New Mexico before reaching one of the oldest cities in the USA. Back on the road, The Grand Canyon State awaits: Arizona. You’ll spend a night in Chinle, located at the entrance to the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, which is home to around 40 Navajo Indian families. The canyon’s towering summits and vast spaces will do little to prepare you for the scale of its big sister the Grand Canyon, a 6000ft deep gorge carved by the Colorado River. Once you’ve taken in its grandeur, it’s time to experience splendour of a more decadent kind in the original Sin City, Las Vegas.
