For the best rates, it is recommended that you fly to Djerba Airport in Tunisia, where you will be met by a representative of Ranch Nomade and taken to the Ranch for your first evening on holiday. The ranch itself is located between the old fort and the stunning oasis at Ksar Ghilane, both well worth a look if you have time. After enjoying a night at the ranch in the peaceful surroundings, you will head out to begin your horseback trek. Ranch Nomade offers both Barb horses (the traditional companions of Saharan Nomad people) and Arab Thoroughbred horses and your guide will match you up to an animal whose personality is suited to your level of riding experience. You will trek for up to 5 or 6 hours a day across the breath-taking sand dunes of the Grand Erg, before pitching your tents and camping in the remote tranquility of the desert. Being many miles away from the light and air pollution of the cities means that you will be able to gaze upwards and on a clear night see the stars brighter than anywhere in the UK. All your food is provided throughout the break, whether in the ranch or out on the trek.
