Full Details

There’s no better time to visit the kaleidoscopic wonders of India than during the ancient Hindu festival of Diwali… We’re offering you a 8-day Diwali & Golden Triangle tour inc. accommodation, breakfast and more for just £399pp, saving you 37% off On The Go’s price of £629pp. A heady mosaic of colour and activity, India is one of the most alluring and mysterious destinations on Earth. During Diwali, or the ‘Festival of Lights’, the country is illuminated with fireworks, lanterns and candles and delicious mithai (South Asian sweets) are exchanged as locals celebrate the Hindu New Year. With today’s deal, you’ll experience Diwali on a tour of India’s Golden Triangle, a rich tapestry of ornate mosques, imperial palaces and wild jungles. With On The Go, winner of the British Travel Awards’ Best Holiday Company to Southern Asia 2013, you’ll be provided with all accommodation, daily breakfast and on-land transportation, as well as a host of planned excursions to keep you entertained throughout. The action-packed itinerary is as follows:
  • Day 1: Arrive in Delhi and transfer to hotel.
  • Day 2: You'll meet your tour guide and head out on a sightseeing tour of Old Delhi, once capital of the Mughal Empire and home to India’s largest mosque, Jama Masjid. After admiring the ornate mosque, you’ll reach Raj Ghat, a marble platform built to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi, before enjoying a traditional Namaste dinner in the evening.
  • Day 3: Your tour of the city continues in New Delhi, where you’ll visit Connaught Square, the India Gate Memorial (the official residence of the President of India) and Qutab Minar, a 73m tall tower built in 1193 after the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu kingdom. In the afternoon you’ll be whisked to the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur - known as the gateway to the desert state of Rajasthan - where many buildings remain a dusky shade of pink after it was painted in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales.
  • Day 4: Beyond Jaipur lies the next stop on your tour: the 16th century Amer Fort. Majestically poised high on the Aravalli hills, the red sandstone and marble fort overlooks the Maota Lake, where its resident herd of elephants often bathe. You’ll board the giant, gentle creatures to ascend the road leading to the fort in true princely style! After touring the fort grounds and interior, you’ll stop at a cotton weaving house, as well as the City Palace and Jantar Mantar observatory.
  • Day 5: Your journey continues east of Jaipur in the village of Abhaneri, where you’ll visit Chand Baori, an immense 13-story step well built by King Chandra between 800 and 900 AD. You’ll then visit the village school, supported by On The Go’s Change for Children programme. Further east, you’ll check into your hotel in Bharatpur before visiting the Keoladeo National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) where you’ll enjoy a leisurely bicycle rickshaw ride to spot the park’s hundreds of species of birds, fish, amphibians and more.
  • Day 6: No trip to India would be complete without seeing the gleaming white marble domes of the Taj Mahal. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the mausoleum was built by 20,000 labourers in memory of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s wife, incorporating many Eastern architectural styles. But before touring the famous mausoleum, you’ll explore the palaces, pavilions and mosques of the ancient city of Fatehpur Sikri and walled city of Agra fort. That evening, you’ll experience the sights and sounds of Diwali, celebrating the Hindu New Year alongside locals in Agra. You’ll visit the Mahadev Temple, where prayers and aarti (Hindu rituals of worship) are performed, before being treated to a special Diwali dinner under the night sky filled with festival lights.
  • Day 7: After breakfast, you’ll return to Delhi to enjoy a day of leisure.
  • Day 8: You’ll depart Delhi and will be taken to the airport for your flight home.
