The Afro-Brazilian art form is thought to have been developed by Africans enslaved in Brazil during the 16th century as a form of defence disguised as a dance. Today, capoeira is taught in Brazil from primary school age and has spread to Europe. Combining elements of martial arts, music and dance, it can help improve flexibility, strength and stamina.
